Great article about what’s on the horizon for AI in medicine with good examples but I’m not sure the applications you mentioned are actually being used, especially in the US where they need FDA approval. A machine for diagnosing diabetic retinopathy using AI algorithms called IDx-Dr was just approved by the FDA. And Watson’s partnership with the Cleveland clinic has lead to published data showing improved treatment recommendations for cancers (not diagnosis, though). But Watson’s partnership with MD Anderson for diagnosing leukemia has been considered a failure, if not fraud. Also the Babylon app in the UK for triaging symptoms using AI has come under scrutiny for mistakes and missing obvious serious medical conditions. It’s not always obvious has been developed is actually being effectively used.
