Blog: Algeria After the protests, and how technology will change the country!
Algeria is the biggest country in Africa, and one of the most important countries to the western civilisation, but sadly the political situation and the autocratic system that “ Abdelaziz Bouteflika “ the ex removed president brought with him since 1999, good news is Algerian youth are leading one of the most eye catching peaceful protests ever, and the change of the system started appearing few days ago after the army threw most of them in the jail.
Now you might be wondering what’s the relationship between what’s happening and technology ? and how can investors and businessman’s ideas thrive in a 3rd world country ?
A rule in business says that, if your product solves a problem, than it will probably succeed and that’s exactly the point, Algeria is a very big country that can become an economical power in 10 years from now, is totally closed on technology because of the policy and the difficulties that the old system made, but with the wind of change that is passing by the country, the ground is still virgin for investors as it is virgin for the innovators and startup enthusiasts who have ideas of websites, mobile applications, internet companies and other fields related to technology.
“The most valuable businesses of coming decades will be built by entrepreneurs who seek to empower people rather than try to make them obsolete.”
― Peter Thiel, Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future
and this is true on so many levels, as everyone knows Algeria still follows obsolete methods to solve problems, take for example cab service, not even a single mobile application to facilitate the task, and many other important services that the youth can provide, on the other hand it’s a chance for many Algerians to become millionaires in no time, taking in consideration the fact that the ground is virgin, and the investors from all over the world will be interested in putting their money in a country as big as a Algeria!
One of the ways Algeria can use technology is Artificial Intelligence, Big Data is no game, and using it the right way can solve your problem, and take you 10x times faster than you would with traditional methods, it can help in medicine delivery, agriculture, education, and many other fields if not all fields.
In the end, i’d like to advice or the Algerian entrepreneurs to switch from the old way of doing business, and follow the trend of technology before it’s too late, we don’t want this beautiful country to be another Nokia story!
